Statistics as a Platform Education for Sustainable Management

INTRODUCTION

Long before systems in education, politics, economics and the likes were formulated, pioneers have already used different techniques just to come up with the correct decisions regarding betterment of human lives.
Data analysis and interpretation long ago is very far different compared to what we have it now. Life is not as complicated as what we have it today. Sophisticated machines and gadgets never existed before. Thus, it is not very difficult to make decisions since the needs arising were not that complicated as well.
However, as generations pass, technology comes in, and sophistication of life increases. And so, different need for human life arises, thus, decision making process transforms from simple to scientific. Meaning, decisions should be based on thorough studies and proper interpretation of data needed.
Statistics stood as a platform education in maintaining sustainable development in human life whether in academics or business since statistics has its necessary tools needed for specific and accurate interpretation of data needed for decision making. Since today’s generation has mutated simple needs into complicated ones.
Without Statistics as our platform education, decision makers would come up to poor interpretation of data gathered that will lead to weak data analysis that would result to erroneous conclusions and recommendations that will eventually yield wrong decisions that will directly not allow us to have a sustainable development.

ADVANCED EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course  is designed to give students a comprehensive view of the basic concepts,principles and application of Statistics in Education. It facilitates student's understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics, hypothesis testing and its application in the conduct of actual research. The course also covers application of computer operations to simplify the computation precess as well as employment innovations.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the students are expected to:

  • Define statistics, its functions, uses and importance in education;
  • Identify similarities/difference between and among various descriptive and inferential                                         statistics;
  • Identify variables according to level of measurement and function in the research process;
  • Apply various statistical techniques to research using MS Excel;
  • Demonstrate competencies in analyzing and solving different statistical techniques.
  • Innovative and develop an Electronic or E-Portfolio for lifelong skills.
CONTENT OUTLINE:
  • INTRODUCTION TO EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS
  • VARIABLES: THE SUBJECT MATTER OF STATISTICS AND RESEARCH
  • INTEGRATION OF INNOVATION IN STATISTICS
  • MEASURES OF CENTRAL LOCATION
  • MEASURES OF VARIATION
  • MEASURES OF CORRELATION
  • THE NORMAL PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION
  • SAMPLING THEORIES AND HYPOTHESIS TESTING
  • THE T-TEST, Z-TEST AND CHI-SQUARE TEST
